  • Yes. Transport, delivery, setup, and tuning are included in my hire packages, so everything is ready when and where you need it.

  • Some of the instruments can be tuned to a range of historical pitches (e.g. 392, 415, 440, 466 Hz). Details are provided with each instrument, and I am happy to discuss the tuning of historical temperaments.

  • I tune many different historical temperaments, such as Werckmeister, Vallotti, Kirnberger, Young, Zarlino, and different mean tone temperaments. I also design my own and advise players about the most practical temperament for the repertoire (for recording or concert).

  • The earlier the better. Advance notice allows us to plan transport and tuning schedules efficiently, which can also help keep costs down.

  • Yes, I can deliver and set up the instrument, discuss your repertoire and timeline, and provide on-site tuning

  • A plectrum, which plucks the strings of a harpsichord, was historically made from bird feathers. Raven feathers were preferred for their size and durability, but because they were rare, crow feathers were often used instead.

  • Absolutely. I work with amateurs, students, individual musicians, ensembles, opera houses, and concert venues alike.

  • I enjoy working with a variety of temperaments — it doesn’t always have to be Vallotti. Some artists even bring me their own designs, which I’m always happy to realise. Exploring different temperaments can be a lot of fun!
